Drivers are advised that a bridge rehabilitation project is set to begin next week on Wilawana Road (Route 4022) in Athens Township, Bradford County. The bridge, which carries Wilawana Road over the Chemung River, is located between Mile Lane Road (Route 4020) and the Route 220 interchange.
Week of March 16
The contractor, Allison Park Contractors, Inc., will begin tree removal and erosion and sediment work. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging during daylight hours.
Week of March 23
The bridge rehabilitation on Wilawana Road will begin. Work includes the construction of access roads, the installation of work platforms, and the removal of portions of the existing deck and portions of the abutment backwalls/wingwalls.
Traffic Impacts (Wilawana Road)
Eastbound traffic
- Starting on Monday, March 23, the Wilawana Road eastbound lane will be closed between Mile Lane Road (Route 4020) and Elmira Street (Route 1069).
- A detour using Wilawana Road, Interstate 86 east in New York State, and Route 220 south will be in place for eastbound traffic through the fall 2026.
Westbound Traffic
- Westbound traffic will be maintained in the work zone.
Drivers will have access to Toziers Landing Park.
